Chateau de Saussignac is a luxury French Chateau to rent in Dordogne, France. The Chateau has recently been renovated to create a comfortable and elegant home and comes with breath-taking views, landscaped gardens and a swimming pool. The Chateau comes with 3 en-suite double bedrooms, two kitchens, two sitting rooms, a home office, swimming pool and 1700m2 of garden. The Chateau dates back to the 16th Century and features an imposing 4 storey Tower.

The Chateau is situated in the heart of a vibrant village, surrounded by vineyards and with a renowned gourmet restaurant. It is located 5kms from the prestigious Chateau des Vigiers international golf course with its Michelin starred restaurant. Bergerac airport is only 20km away. 

Chateau de Saussignac is available for guests to rent on a monthly basis throughout the year from €2500 per month + bills.

Luxury French Chateau to rent in France - facilities

The Chateau dates back to the 16th century, with two additional wings added during the 17th century. Today the Chateau is split into 3 properties, each with their own private access and gardens. This rental property comprises the Southern wing of the Chateau, with its tower. The accommodation is laid out over 3 floors and totals over 370m2 of living space.

Ground floor - entrance

From the driveway, there is an entrance into the ground floor of the Tower. Here you will find:

  • The spacious and well equipped kitchen. The kitchen features top of the range appliances, central island, exposed stone walls and a beautiful vaulted ceiling. There is a lovely dining area with views out over the village and countryside.
  • There is a large sitting room (64 m²) featuring a vaulted ceiling and parquet flooring. The sitting room comes with comfortable sofas, antique furniture and a large flat screen TV. There is also a wood burner
  • The home office comes with an en-suite Cloakroom / WC. The home office has an electric heater.

Lower ground floor - garden level

From the garden and swimming pool area, there is an entrance into the side wing of the Chateau, which was originally used for storing wine, horses and agricultural equipment. Here there is located:

  • A stunning Grand Salon (62 m²) with vaulted stone ceiling and wooden floor.
  • There is a Wine Cellar, which is humidity controlled.
  • There is a large Summer Kitchen (30 m²) - which is perfect for preparing meals to be eaten in the Abri, next to the pool. French windows lead out from the summer kitchen out to the garden.
  • There is also a WC on this floor.

Second floor

This is located in the Tower and features 4m high ceilings and tall windows.

  • Bedroom 1 is luxurious and very spacious (44 m²). It features an original stone fireplace, exposed stone walls and a beautiful ceiling with exposed wooden beams. There is a King-size double bed, chaise-longue, dressing table and bedside cabinets. There is a radiator connected to the central heating, as well as an additional electric radiator. It comes with a large en suite bathroom featuring exposed wooden beams. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, wash basin, heated towel rail and WC.
  • Bedroom 2 is also very spacious (37m²) and features a beautiful double bed, exposed stone walls, stunning views and access to a small Juliette balcony. The bedroom has a central heating radiator. The en-suite bathroom has a walk-in shower, WC, heated towel rail and wash basin.
  • Bedroom 3 features a King-size double bed (which can be separated into twin beds), an armchair, dressing table and bedside cabinets. The bedroom is 30 m² and is heated by a radiator connected to the central heating. The en-suite bathroom has a walk-in shower, WC, heated towel rail and wash basin.
  • There is a Laundry Room with washing machine, tumble dryer and overhead dryer.

Attic

  • The attic has yet to be converted but it has electricity, water and 5 windows. The floor and walls are boarded. This would be an ideal space for an Artist studio.

Outside

  • There is over 1700m² of landscaped gardens, with a large lawn and an ornamental courtyard garden. The gardens come with stunning views over the local vineyards and village.
  • The large swimming pool is 7m x 1.6m. The pool has a salt water filter. Next to the pool there is a large summer house, perfect for outdoor entertaining.
  • There is a private driveway with plenty of parking.

French Chateau to rent - prices

Chateau de Saussignac is available to rent throughout the year. The minimum stay is usually 1 months and prices will vary according to the season and duration of your stay. The rental price includes the gardener and a concierge service. In addition to the rental price, there is a provision of €500 towards the electricity, water, alarm, pool cleaning and Wi-Fi. During the winter period, guests are required to purchase oil for the central heating (which is reflected in the reduced rental price). Pets may be accepted through prior agreement.

Area activities

Saussignac is a very vibrant village, surrounded by vineyards. The village is located close to Monbazillac, famous for its fine dessert wines. Bergerac is 15 km away and the popular market town of Eymet is 16km.

The village of Saussignac has reputation for producing fine wines and is a centre for Arts & Crafts. There is an annual Arts exhibition held in the grounds of the Chateau every Autumn. In the centre of the village, just a short stroll from the Chateau, you will find an excellent restaurant (Mélange).

Saussignac is close to Chateau Vigiers, an impressive 16th Century Chateau with 18 hole golf course, spa and Michelin restaurant. 

​Nearby, you will also find horse riding stables, tennis courts and fishing. For younger visitors there is plenty to do and see including canoeing on the Dordogne river, about 45 minutes drive to the east of Bergerac, an Ecological Farm 30 minutes south of Eymet, a Tree-climbing adventure park and an Aqua park with four 1,000 m2 swimming pools with water slides and direct access to the river. 

In the nearby town of Bergerac, there is Ten pin bowling, a professional go-karting course, mini-golf, Trampoline Parc and Laser Quest. Close to Sarlat-la-Canéda, you will find Aquarium du Périgord Noir, the largest private indoor aquarium in Europe.

The Dordogne is home to some of the prettiest villages in France and many are located in the local area, including:

  • Monpazier is an exceptional 13th century bastide town (fortified village) and it is widely recognised as among the most beautiful villages in France. The large open market square, which still holds weekly markets today, is always popular with visitors.
  • Limeuil has a popular river beach where the Vezere and Dordogne rivers join. 
  • The picture-postcard village of La Roque-Gageac is situated along the banks of the Dordogne river. 
  • Domme is a beautiful hilltop village with lovely honey-coloured stone buildings. Under the village there is an extensive network of caves. From the top of the village you have fabulous views across the river and countryside
  • Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is a very pretty village best known as the site of the Chateau de Castelnaud - the most visited castle in the region
  • Beynac-et-Cazenac is situated about 10km South-West of Sarlat, on the banks of the Dordogne river. The local castle here was once put under siege by Richard the Lionheart. 
  • Belves is one of the liveliest and most attractive medieval town in Dordogne. 

Other transport

There is a mainline train station in Bergerac (20 mins), which has services to Bordeaux and Paris.

Airports

Saussignac is only 20 minutes from Bergerac airport. The airport is served by Flybe, Ryanair and Jet2 airlines. Bordeaux airport is 1 hour 30 mins.
