Area activities

In Lagrasse you can visit the Benedictine monastery that still dates back to the 8th century or stroll through the small streets with shops and galleries. There is a covered market on Saturdays at Place de Halle. There are several good restaurants. In the area you can walk and cycle (marked walking and cycling routes), horseback riding, play tennis and fish or swim in the river. There are often concerts, exhibitions and cultural events. Further sights: historic cities such as Narbonne, Beziers, Perpignan, Montpellier and of course Carcassonne with its famous ´Cité´. The Cathar castles such as Quéribus, Peyrepertuse, Puylaurens and Montségur (route des Cathares). Endless possibilities to taste and buy wine. The Mediterranean beaches are just a half-hour drive away and a trip to one of the artists´ villages such as Canet or Collioure is certainly worth it. Be sure: a boat trip on the Canal du Midi or a walk along the art route in the nearby village of Mayronnes!
