The Monastery operated on this site from the 12 the Century up until the French revolution in 1789. The property was later abandoned and fell into ruins. The current Owner took 30 years to restore the Monastery to its former glory and today provides 8 vacation rental apartments, as well as an excellent restaurant and large heated swimming pool. Originally, the Monastery would have been home to 30-50 Benedictine monks and the apartments have been built into the former bakery, brewery, bottling room, chapel and auditorium. This particular apartment is located on the first floor in what is thought to have been the cloistered dormitory for the monks.
You access the apartment through the inner courtyard of the Monastery and up a wide stone staircase to a covered terrace. Here you can look out over the flowers of the courtyard and the hills of the Cevennes. From the terrace you step into the living room and one of the bedrooms. The living room contains a small kitchen equipped with a fridge, hotplate and sink. There are plenty of cooking utensils, plates and glasses, as well as storage for food. There is a large antique dining table and chairs. From all windows you have an impressive view over the Cevennes hills.
A hallway leads from the living room to the two bedrooms. The Master bedroom is very spacious and contains a Queen size double bed (160 x 200cm), antique wardrobe and two easy chairs. A single bed can be installed in this bedroom, bring the sleeping capacity up to 5 people. A doorway from the Master bedroom leads to the second bedroom. Bedroom 2 features two single beds and is ideal for children. Next to the bedrooms there is a family bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin.
Outside: this apartment comes with a lovely private covered terrace with views down over the courtyard. The terrace contains two armchairs, a small table and additional seating. This is a lovely space to enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. Surrounding the Monastery there is over 60 hectares of land, which contains an art trail, old stone walls, walking trails and a pond. There are plenty of shaded spots under mature trees to sit and have a picnic. There is also a large heated swimming pool which comes with the most amazing views. There is plenty of private parking available under the shade of the trees.
The prices quoted include the linen, towels, end of stay cleaning and tourist tax. Prices do not include the half-board supplement of 5 evening meals and 7 breakfasts (€169 per person / €113 per children). The restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
