Le Auditorium is a beautiful holiday apartment to rent in an old 12th Century Monastery, in the Cevennes region of Southern France. The apartment can accommodate 4-5 people and comes with a heated swimming pool and an on-site restaurant. The Monastery is located on a hill-side and comes with panoramic views. This rural property is hard to find, but even harder to leave!! The views as you wake in the morning are simply breathtaking and the sunsets are not bad either. The Cevennes region of Southern France is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of France, with dense forests, river gorges and mountain streams. The Cevennes has some of the best cycling routes and walking trails in Europe and the local wildlife includes eagles, vultures, otters, deer, kites and buzzards. It is a popular foraging area for wild mushrooms and truffles and you can also find some extremely rare wild orchids.
Le Auditorium - South France apartments for holiday - Our Opinion
Last visited: Jan 2019. That view that you have from your private terrace will stay with you for ever. It is not often that you can say that you spent your summer holidays at a former Monastery. The apartments have plenty of character and the swimming pool and local activities will ensure that you have an unforgettable holiday experience. The restaurant provides excellent meals 5 nights a week. You can eat like Kings for €20 per head. Nearby you have some stunning villages and towns to visit (Uzès, Anduze, Barjac and Lussan to name but a few). These holiday apartment rentals are located 50 mins drive from Nimes or Avignon airport. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday.

Auditorium South France apartments are located in the North-Western corner of the Gard department of France, bordering the Ardeche and Lozere departments. This area of France is collectively known as The Cevennes and it is classified as a French National Park. The surrounding area is largely unspoiled and provides breathtaking scenery.
The region first came to international prominence through the work of the Scottish writer, Robert Louis Stephenson. In 1879 he published his book "Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes", in which he describes his journey through the region and his many stays at the local monasteries.
The Monastery dates back over 900 years and the last monks left in 1787 when the Monastery was dissolved during the French Revolution. The Monastery contained a bakery, brewery, library, auditorium and chapel. Today it has been renovated and turned into a holiday centre, featuring painting holidays, cookery classes and singing courses. It has also been used as a location for weddings.
The local villages of Molieres-sur-Ceze has a population of around 1,500 people and is surrounded by dense forest and was a former mining village. Today the village is a popular place for holidaymakers looking to explore the local countryside on bike or on foot. The local area has some of the best cycling routes and hiling trails in France.
Popular local activities include canoeing in the local river (River Cèze) and an extensive tree-climbing centre which takes you through the canopy of the local forest. This is located just 500m from the house.
The nearest large town is Alès which is just a short drive away. Alès was historically a mining town, as well as an important centre for silk weaving. The town became an important refuge for French Protestants (Huguenots) during the 16th Century. The town contains a lot of shops, larger supermarkets, restaurants, banks, DIY stores and services for the region.
Nearby, you have some of the prettiest towns and villages in France. Uzès and Anduze are both 25 minutes away and nearby you will find the beautiful villages of Barjac, Lussan and La Rouque-sur-Cèze.
