Villa Les Ecureuils is located on the edge of the small town of Montagnac. Montagnac has everything you need during your stay: shops, banks, a wine cave, cafes and bars, a weekly market and on the edge of town, the largest wine cooperative in France. If you are visiting without a car everything you need is at hand, and there is a good bus service to surrounding areas.
Montagnac is a 3 minute drive from the historic town of Pezenas, with its beautiful old centre filled with winding street, antique dealers and many restaurants and art shops. Fifteen minutes to the south brings you to wonderful Mediterranean beaches and north are the l`Herault mountains with caves, rivers and scenic drives. To the South and West there is Carcassonne and the Cathar fortresses and eventually Spain. In the east explore Provence with all its history, and on to the Riviera. There are many chateaus in the area where you can taste and enjoy the Languedoc wines.
Local markets: On Friday morning there is a lovely food market in the square in Montagnac. Pézenas also has a fantastic market on Saturdays, which shouldn’t be missed. Clermont-Herault has an excellent market on Wednesday morning with lots of craft stalls. Mèze market is on Thursday and Sunday morning.
Restaurants: In Montagnac you can eat in the square at the Brasserie de Sport (very reasonably €20 a head), and soak up the local atmosphere, plus walk home! There is also an excellent French restaurant, Le jardin d’Helena which is very reasonably priced and only 5 mins walk. If you fancy take out pizza, there are two pizzerias in the town. A short drive to the Domaine Paul Mas just outside Montagnac will reward you with excellent wines and a lovely restaurant. If you like seafood head for Bouzigues, on the Etang de Thau, a big oyster producing area. Many of the Fishermen run restaurants there and the Jardin de la Mer and La Palourdière are excellent.
Beaches: The nearest beach is located at Meze, on the shores of the Etang de Thau, a salt water lake separate from the Mediterranean sea by a thin strip of land. Other beaches to try include Marseillan Plage and the beaches stretching between Marseillan and Sete.

Wonderfully relaxing large villa perfect for an extended family holiday. Plenty of space, well equipped, easy walking to centre of village (restaurants, shops and events), lovely pool, plenty of shade and sunshine, well looked after but not 'too precious', flood-lit boules. Taxis in the area have to be pre-booked and no Uber
