Mas Blanc is a stunning 1 bedroom holiday rental with heated pool, it is located in a 15th Century Monastery, which has been lovingly converted into a holiday centre. The Cevennes region of Southern France is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of France. The Monastery is located on a small hilltop, 1.5km from the nearest village. The large town of Alès is 18 km away, the historic town of Uzès is 30 km and Nimes and Avignon are both 50 mins drive away. There is a TGV train station in both Nimes and Avignon, as well as local airports with low cost flights to the UK.
This one bedroom apartment can sleep up to 3 people. The apartment is located in the former bakery of the Monastery, where fresh bread and homemade sausages were cooked for the Monks. The bakery is located on the ground floor of the Monastery. Originally, the large chimney from the Oven used to run up through the Monastery and heat the whole building. Today, the chimney space has been converted into a cute kitchen area. The kitchen window shows the former entrance to the domed oven and on the wall you can see the ring which hinged the heavy oven door. The original oven door has been preserved and stands against the wall outside the Bakery.
The bakery was constructed with arched ceilings and thick stone walls. Today this helps to keep this lovely apartment nice and cool even during the hottest summers (the apartment has a pleasant constant temperature of 23 degrees). The apartment has big arched windows which let light flood into the apartment and provide views out over the courtyard, with its many potted plants and flowers.
Bedroom & Bathroom
The bakery apartment has a small terrace, which is located on the east side of the building, a few meters from the apartment. Surrounding the Monastery there is over 60 hectares of land, which contains an art trail, old stone walls, walking trails and a pond. There are plenty of shaded spots under mature trees to sit and have a picnic. There is also a large heated swimming pool which comes with the most amazing views. There is plenty of private parking available under the shade of the trees.
The prices quoted include the linen, towels, end of stay cleaning and tourist tax. Prices do not include the half-board supplement of 5 evening meals and 7 breakfasts (€169 per person / €113 per children). The restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Friday evenings. The restaurant has one of the finest reputations in the area and the food is excellent. The half-board supplement enables the Owner to employ a full time chef and to keep the meal costs to a very reasonable level.
Last visited: Jan 2019. It is not often that you can say that you spent your summer holidays at a former Monastery. The apartments have plenty of character and the swimming pool and local activities will ensure that children and adults alike with have an unforgettable holiday experience. Nearby you have some stunning villages and towns to visit (Uzès, Anduze, Barjac and Lussan to name but a few). These holiday apartment rentals are located 50 mins drive from Nimes or Avignon airport. The old Monastery is not easy to find, but as the Owner says "we are hard to find and even harder to leave!!". Highly recommended for a relaxing family holiday.
