For beer lovers - you can stay in the former bottling room of a 12th Century Benedictine Monastery perched up on a hill overlooking the Cevennes mountains in Southern France. This one bedroom holiday apartment has use of the on-site heated swimming pool, excellent restaurant and over 60 hectares of grounds. The Monastery was one-time home to over 30 monks and the Monastery had a brewery, bakery, chapel, farm and music auditorium. The Monastery fell into decline after the French revolution in 1789 and has now been restored and brought back life to provide 8 holiday apartments.
The Cevennes region of Southern France is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of France. The Monastery is located up a quiet lane close to the village of Molières-surCèze. The large town of Alès is 18 km away, the historic town of Uzès is 30 km and Nimes and Avignon are both 50 mins drive away. There is a TGV train station in both Nimes and Avignon, as well as local airports with low cost flights to the UK.
The “Bottling Room” is a one bedroom apartment located on the ground floor of the former Benedictine monastery. It can accommodate up to 3 people and comes with a private terrace at the rear and a beautiful courtyard at the entrance.
Inside the Bottling room there is an original 12th century arched ceiling.
Bedroom & Bathroom
At the back of the apartment you will find a doorway leading out to your own terrace. The terrace looks out over the hills of the Cevennes and the 60 hectares of private forests and streams surrounding the Monastery. The sunrise in the morning is a memory that will stay with you forever. The terrace is equipped with a cozy round table and comfortable chairs. This is a lovely space to enjoy a glass of wine during the evening.
The Monastery comes with a large heated swimming pool and sun terrace (with amazing panoramic views). There is also an excellent restaurant on site and a beautiful art trail through the forest. There are plenty of places for a picnic in the grounds or to find a quite place under a tree to read a good book.
The prices quoted include the linen, towels, end of stay cleaning and tourist tax. Prices do not include the half-board supplement of 5 evening meals and 7 breakfasts (€169 per person / €113 per children). The restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Friday evenings. The restaurant has one of the finest reputations in the area and the food is excellent. The half-board supplement enables the Owner to employ a full time chef and to keep the meal costs to a very reasonable level.

It is not often that you can say that you spent your summer holidays at a former Monastery. The apartments have plenty of character and the swimming pool is great for relaxing beside on lazy days. Once you have chilled out and feel a bit more energetic, there is a fabulous tree-climbing centre just 500m away. Other excursions include canoeing on the nearby river, taking in the markets at the nearby villages of Barjac and Lussan and visiting the historical towns of Anduze and Uzés. The Mediterranean beaches are 1 hour 15 mins drive. No matter what you do on your holiday though, you will never forget the stunning views over the Cevennes mountains first thing in the morning and at sunset!
This Cevennes, France apartment rental with pool is located in the North-Western corner of the Gard department of France, bordering the Ardeche and Lozere departments. This area of France is collectively known as The Cevennes and it is classified as a French National Park. The surrounding area is largely unspoiled and provides breathtaking scenery.
The region first came to international prominence through the work of the Scottish writer, Robert Louis Stephenson. In 1879 he published his book "Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes", in which he describes his journey through the region and his many stays at the local monasteries.
The Monastery dates back over 800 years and the last monks left in 1787 when the Monastery was dissolved during the French Revolution. The Monastery contained a bakery, brewery, library, auditorium and chapel. Today it has been renovated and turned into a holiday centre, featuring painting holidays, cookery classes and singing courses. It has also been used as a location for weddings.
The local villages of Molieres-sur-Ceze has a population of around 1,500 people and is surrounded by dense forest and was a former mining village. Today the village is a popular place for holidaymakers looking to explore the local countryside on bike or on foot. The local area has some of the best cycling routes and hiling trails in France.
Popular local activities include canoeing in the local river (River Cèze) and an extensive tree-climbing centre which takes you through the canopy of the local forest. This is located just 500m from the house.
The nearest large town is Alès which is just a short drive away. Alès was historically a mining town, as well as an important centre for silk weaving. The town became an important refuge for French Protestants (Huguenots) during the 16th Century. The town contains a lot of shops, larger supermarkets, restaurants, banks, DIY stores and services for the region.
Nearby, you have some of the prettiest towns and villages in France. Uzès and Anduze are both 25 minutes away and nearby you will find the beautiful villages of Barjac, Lussan and La Rouque-sur-Cèze.

50% deposit to be paid at time of reservation. Balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. Rental prices include linen, towels, end of stay cleaning and full use of the swimming pool and facilities.

Prices based on 2 people. There is an additional supplement of €95 per week for an additional person.
