Limousin is a former region of France, that has now become part of the larger region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It comprises three French departments: Corrèze, Creuse, and Haute-Vienne. It is a very rural area of France and is the least densly-populated area in mainland France. The Limousin is a major beef farming centre, with the distinctive herds of red Limousin cattle common throughout the region. The local forests also supply many timber related industries. The local French Oaks continue to provide the wood for the barrels of Rémy Martin brandy
The Corrèze department was the birthplace of 3 French Popes, 2 former Presidents of France (Jaques Chirac and Francois Hollande) and also the accordion! I would probably argue that the accordion has had the most impact on French life!! The department is also famous for its wild mushrooms and chestnuts. Correze is also home to five of the “plus beaux villages de France ” - Saint-Robert, Segur le Chateau, Collonges la Rouge, Curemonte and and Turenne.
