Haut Languedoc Regional Park is well set up for walking holidays. Since France declared this beautiful area a regional Park in 1973 it has become very popular with hikers. Haut Languedoc Regional Park is situated south of the Massif Central within the Aveyron, Hérault and Tarn departments of France. Haut Languedoc Regional Park covers an an area of 2,605 km² very diverse countryside.  Cevennes If you would like to plan your walking holiday in France around a theme, then Robert Stevensons book "Travels with a Donkey" would be as good as any. Following Stevenson's trail around the Cevennes hills at the turn of the 19th century France ensures that you will have a walking holiday to remember. The Cevennes became a National Park in 1970. Since then they have become a popular destination for hikers of all abilities. Rising above the plains of the Languedoc the Cevennes is a region of deep river valleys and hill slopes covered in forests. The summits of the Cevennes are made up of limestone plateaux called the Causses (“Cans”). The Cevennes today is an ideal region for nature lovers and hikers.
