Features

Maison du Tonnellerie is an 18th century stone cottage rental in Provence. This cottage rental Provence has all the modern facilities you will need as well as some wonderful period features. Provence is the authentic rural South of France depicted in films like Jean de Florette and Peter Mayal's book A Year in Provence. Nearby you will find the Pont du Gard, Uzes, Nimes, Avignon and Arles. This quaint cottage rental that used to be the local Cooperage has just been renovated to reflect the charm of Provence. The large salon with its beamed ceilings, red tile floors and large arched windows framing a picturesque view of our Provence village. On chilly evenings the fireplace will warm you. The room is furnished in the flavors of Provence including sofa and armchairs along with dining table and other period furnishings.

Cottage rental Provence Facilities:

Cottage rental Provence is an 18th century stone cottage rental in Provence, completely restored with all modern conveniences. The holiday accommodation has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and shower, a separate WC, a large salon or living room, new modern kitchen and a sunny private courtyard with BBQ.

The salon has the cooperage's original 18th century beamed ceiling, complete with stains from the smoke of burning in the barrels. The room has an old tiled floor and large windows that provide wonderful Provencal light. The authentic stone fireplace with wood burning stove is great for occasional chilly nights in spring and fall and is a real focal point for winter nights. A large wrought iron sofa and comfortable armchairs make a great gathering place for conversation and enjoying the local Cotes du Rhone wines of Provence. The antique dining table and chairs came from older homes in the Provence region and add an undeniably French Provence country look to the house.

On the second level the floors are stone blocks, which like the house itself, were made from the local limestone quarries that provided the massive stones for the Pont du Gard. Two double bedrooms in the colors of Provence along with a modern bath and water closet occupy this floor.

The Master bedroom boasts a queen size bed with bedside tables and lamps. A small armoir is provided for hanging clothes and storing luggage. A writing/working table with view overlooking the neighborhood completes the furnishing.

The second bedroom has a full size bed with bedside tables and lamps. A large closet area provides plenty of room for hanging clothes and hiding luggage.

There is a courtyard off the salon. What a peaceful place to spend a hour or two reading and sipping a cool glass of rose. Lunch or dinner are perfect in this outdoor setting as well. The table seats six and there is a BBQ.

Kitchen -  has been completely refurbished. New kitchen units, new gas stove, refrigerator with freezer, butler's sink and dishwasher are ready for use. There is also a new front loading washing machine. The fireplace, once used to heat and oil the cooper's tools, is no longer useable, but still quaintly decorative.

Cottage rental Provence Prices:

Maison du Tonnellerie is available for rent on a weekly basis.  All linens are provided. There are free local telephone calls and the cottage rental provides wifi internet access. This holiday accommodation has free off-road parking.   The weekly prices are as follows:

Area activities

Ancient history is alive in La Tonnellerie (cooperage) and in every corner of this region. Within five minutes, (15 minutes cycling, 30 minutes walking) is the famed first century A.D. Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard, the third most visited place in France. Medieval churches and buildings can be discovered in every hill town. In Avignon (20 minutes) visit the 14th century Palace of the Popes while in Nimes (25 minutes) you can explore the First Century Roman amphitheater. Festivals in Orange, Avignon and Nimes are not to be missed along with the summer festivals in the bustling village of Uzes. Cote du Rhone vineyards surround the village with visits to the wineries readily available. For more adventure, within an hour is the Carmargue, Les Baux, St. Remy, Arles, Aix en Provence. The Saturday market in Uzes (ten minutes) is one of the best in southern France.

Uzes is the nearest larger town - actually a small city - about 11,000 population - with a lot going on. The Duke of Uzes was the first Duke in France. The Duchy remains to this day, and the palace is open for tours. Besides the renowned twice-weekly markets, Uzes has excellent shopping, sightseeing and dining.

A thirty minute walk or a five minute drive takes you to the world famous Pont du Gard, the 2nd most visited tourist site in France. Though it looks like a bridge, and was used as one for centuries, the Pont du Gard is an aqueduct begun in 19 B.C. by the Romans to provide water to the ancient city of Nimes. The engineering of this marvel is so precise, that modern computer aided design could not improve on the construction. The beginning of the aqueduct in Uzes. The aqueduct that carries water to Nimes over the Pont du Gard actually starts in Uzes in the Vallee du Eure. It winds around the hills for nearly 50 km on its way to Nimes. A fun walk is to follow the source of the aqueduct in the Vallee du Eure through a lovely park in Uzes.

Fill your days with activities. Explore the many back roads by bike and discover hidden towns. Hike to ancient archeological sites left by the Romans. The brocante or flea market on Sunday mornings in Uzes is full of treasures. St. Quentin la Poterie is known for its pottery. Visit the many shops and studios. In Collias, rent a canoe and float under the Pont du Gard. Enjoy a picnic with the foods from the markets in the neighboring vineyards along with a wine tasting. Walk to the limestone quarries in Vers. Have a leisurely lunch in the sunny cafes of Uzes. Drift over the vineyards in a hot air balloon. All these adventures you will find in our backyard.
