On the first floor of the holiday rental there is a spacious entrance which closes the house off from the street. To the right is a separate laundry with a washing machine and plenty of storage space for bikes and hiking boots. Down the hallway is a Moroccan style lounge and dining area featuring exposed stone work, made cozy by an open fireplace. The Moroccan theme of the holiday rental is carried through to the kitchen where you can cook up the freshest of country produce with a full supply of cooking utensils, cutlery and china.

Ascending a staircase which exposes the stones and archway of the medieval town wall, you reach the second floor. On this floor there is a large double bedroom, separate toilet and a twin room which has a joining sitting room with a couch that can be converted into a double bed. In this room there is also a vanity to freshen up should you wish to, along with an information table containing all local area information and advice.

On the top floor of the holiday rental is the master bedroom with double bed and a separate modern bathroom with hydro-massage shower, vanity and toilet. A delightful sitting/sun room leads through glass doors to an open terrace where most of the summer living is done.

The holiday rental is bright and airy with stylish furnishings throughout. It comes fully equipped with all bed linen and towels at no extra cost. There are no additional charges for cleaning or electricity. Having only been opened for holiday rentals from August 2004, all furnishings are new and of superior quality. There is satellite television (english spoken channels), a DVD, video, Hi-Fi system, and a Weber BBQ on the terrace. Wi-Fi wireless internet access is provided (own computer required.)

Last visited Spring 2009. This holiday rental in Languedoc Roussillon is ideal if you want to find a quiet and relaxing self-catering holiday rental near to the wonderful city of Carcassone. Olonzac is conveniently located to explore the Minervois wine region as well as the main sites of Languedoc Roussillon and the South of France. This tastefully decorated and well-equipped holiday offers excellent value for money. The bars and restaurants and market (Tuesday) of Olonzac is just around the corner.

The holiday rental Languedoc Roussillon is in Olonzac and the Minervois wine region offers a variety of things to do depending on the type of group you fall into.

For a family with young children the Mediterranean beaches are a must. The beaches are kept clean and dogs are not permitted on them. Swimming is safe with plenty of lifeguards in season. A trip through the etangs (salt lakes) that run from Narbonne down to Peyriac de Mer is worth the visit just to see the pink flamingos. A little further south is the African wild life park Sigean.

An afternoon boat ride on the Canal du Midi is a must. The departure takes place in Homps, 5km from Olonzac. Returning to your port of call, one could have a late afternoon drink or an al fresco dinner at one of the many restaurants right on the edge of the canal (read Canal du Midi for more details).

Being a fantastic area for hiking and cycling, hire bikes that can be delivered to your door. You will have plenty of choices of routes including the canal towpaths and local roads through the vineyards.

Carcassonne (see Carcassonne) and its famous medieval castle, which has been seen in a number of films, has a wonderful covered market and an 18-hole golf course. For Bastille day, 14th July, Carcassonne becomes one of the busiest places in France and hosts a spectacular fire-works display. Pezenas, known as Moliere's town, is the place where the famous playwright used to spend his summers away from Paris. His plays are now being performed there on a regular basis (see Pezenas for further details). Further along, you can visit Le Pont du Gard (see Pont du Gard), a Roman Aqueduct, and the cities of Arles and Nimes, both graced with arenas dedicated to bullfighting also dating back to the Roman era.

There is a beautiful covered market in Narbonne (see Narbonne for more details), Les Halles where the quality of food is excellent from butchers through fishmongers. It operates from Monday to Saturday and is augmented every Thursday and Sunday by a huge market both sides of the Robine Canal, a tributary of the Canal du Midi. Narbonne dates back to pre Roman times. More adventurous shopping can be done in Andorra, high in the Pyrenees, a tax-free haven about 3 hours south.

Montpellier (see Montpellier), a university town of note, amazingly chic, and voted by the French as the best city in France is about 1hr 15mins drive away. Spain and the Pyrenees are approximately an hour away.

For those of you who are into sports there is a lot to offer. Cycling, swimming, climbing in the Black Mountains or the gorges, walking, horse riding, tennis, canal and river fishing, golf and in the winter skiing in the Pyrenees.
